Davidson and Davie Apprenticeship Consortium (DDAC)
Davidson - Davie Community College, with campuses in Davidson and Davie counties, has worked with several major employers to establish and sustain an advanced manufacturing apprenticeship consortium. The initiative is funded partly by a $196,000 grant from the Duke Energy / Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation for specialized equipment and scholarships, with additional support from the Davidson County EDC and the Davie County EDC.
Founding companies include KURZ Transfer Products, Ingersoll Rand, Avgol, EGGER Wood Products, Wolverine Proctor and BMK Americas. The apprenticeship consortium program targets students in Davidson and Davie counties, engaging them to explore and join their companies in a multi-year, paid education & work career path with guaranteed employment upon graduation from the program. Student work will showcase evidence of the process of learning to an audience.
Valley Academy is one of only ten STEM High Schools in North Carolina to be awarded highest NC STEM School of Distinction level, the MODEL Level of Achievement. Model Level STEM Schools of Distinction systemically interweave science, technology, engineering and mathematics into compliment coursework in the arts, career and technical education, English language arts, healthful living and world history. Model Level schools also maintain an established network of community relationships and strategies that foster purposeful connections between student studies and the world outside the classroom.
